Before discussing instruction pipelining in detail, it is useful to discuss the various stages of instruction processing. In particular, we will break up instruction processing into the following six stages: 1. FI (fetch instruction) - get the next instruction 2. DI (decode instruction) - decode the opcode and operands 3. 7. Instruction Execution Cycle The time period during which one instruction is fetched from memory and execute when computer given an instruction in machine language. Each instruction is further divided into sequence of phases. After the execution of program counter is incremented to point to the next instruction. 8. The generic instruction cycle for an unspecified CPU consists of the following stages: Fetch instruction: Read instruction code from address in PC and place in IR. ( IR ← Memory[PC] ) Decode instruction: Hardware determines what the opcode/function is, and determines which registers or memory addresses contain the Phases of Instruction cycle: 1. Fetch an instruction from memory. 2. Decode the instruction. 3. Read the effective address from memory if the instruction has an indirect address. 4. Execute the instruction. The block diagram of figure-1 shows the data path of the first two phase of the instruction cycle that is the fetch and decode operation. It is composed of three main stages: the fetch stage, the decode stage, and the execute stage. The CPU performs 6 phases to execute an instruction, and phases are repeated repeatedly. This cycle of phases is called as Instruction cycle. Six phases of the Instruction Cycle is divided into two parts. a) Fetch cycle Instruction Fetch b) Execution cycle Instruction decode Effective Address Calculation Operand Fetch Execution Write back result collaborative instructional cycle, which consists of four interrelated phases: co-planning, co-instruction, co-assessment of student learning, and reflection (See Figure 1). All four phases together maximize teacher effectiveness and impact on MLs' and ELLs' language acquisition, literacy development, content learning, and socialmotional 13. Say it takes 100 cycles to read from or write to memory and only one cycle to read from or write to a register. Calculate the number of cycles it takes for each phase of the instruction cycle for both the IA-32 instruction "ADD [eax], edx" (refer to Example 4.3) and the LC-3 instruction "ADD R6, R2, R6." Assume each phase (if required The cycle consists of the following steps: - Fetch instruction: Like the name stated in this process the cpu fetches the instruction from the memory. The PC get loaded with the address of the instruction. - Dec
