Design, Analysis and Performance Testing of a Diesel Engine as a Portable Electrical Generator Joshi B.M.1 1Student, Mechanical Engineering, Savitribai Phule Pune University -----***-----Abstract - The objective of this paper is to present a detailed case study of Vertical water-cooled Diesel Engine by testing its performance using Willan's AG ENGG. 243 Lecture 3 4 Valves: To allow the air to enter into the cylinder or the exhaust, gases to escape from the cylinder, valves are provided, known as inlet and exhaust valves respectively. The valves are mounted either on the cylinder head or on the cylinder block. Camshaft: The valves are operated by the action of the camshaft, which has separate cams for the inlet, Diesel Engine Fundamentals DOE-HDBK-1018/1-93 DIESEL ENGINES. Air Intake System. Because a diesel engine requires close tolerances to achieve its compression ratio, and because most diesel engines are either turbocharged or supercharged, the air entering the engine must be clean, free of debris, and as cool as possible. Turbocharging and D2676 Characteristics nnCylinders and arrangement: 6 cylinders in-line nnMode of operation: Four-stroke diesel engine with direct fuel injection nnTurbocharging: Turbo charger with charge air cooling nnEngine cooling: Water circulation by means of attached rotary pump and front end combination radiator nnInjection: Common Rail injection system with an injection pressure of 1 800 bar A diesel engine needs to rotate between 150 and 250 rpm to start. the purpose of the starting system is to provide the torque needed to achieve the necessary minimum cranking speed. As the starter motor starts to rotate the flywheel, the crankshaft is turned, which then starts piston movement. •The two stroke Diesel engine does not mix fuel or oil with the combustion air. The crankshaft bearings are lubricated from pressurised oil in the same way as a four stroke engine. •The two stroke cycle is so called because it takes two strokes of the piston to complete the processes needed to convert the energy in the fuel into work. Diesel Engines are called CI Engine, which means the Compression Ignition engine. In the case of Diesel Engine only air is sucked in the suction stroke and then air is compressed to very high temperature and pressure, and then an injector sprayed the atomized diesel inside the compressed air, and in a second the fuel is burned and generate power. Particulate Filter (DPF) for engines in this range and require the development of a regeneration strategy. • EU countries will enter Stage V in 2019 (19 kW - 56 kW) and 2020 (>56 kW) • The U.S. is currently regulated by EPA Tier 4 final. Canada follows the same standards. • Japan and Switzerland follow norms that are similar to -Basic diesel engine operation-Diesel engine force air by the intake valve into the cylinder -High compression ratio heats the air enough to ignite the fuel)-Fuel is injected into the cylinder at high pressure-The amount of fuel injected suits to the load and controls engine speed The engine is an air-cooled one-cylinder 4-stroke Diesel engine. Front and side views of the engine are shown in Fig. 4a and b, respectively. The engine is mounted on a base plate (1) which is installed in the seat of the internal combustion engine basic module. The speed of the engine is set with a controller (11). They include new engines with higher power output for pickup trucks, as well as, in the medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses category, new and upgr
