All the flags flown in the ceremony are flags from the caskets of veterans. The ceremony has been taking place on Sunset beach since 1973. It is known for a flag raising-lowering ceremony which takes places every morning and evening from May through Longport Dog Beach Longport Dog Beach (also known as Somers Point Dog Beach, Malibu Beach, or just Dog Beach) is an off-leash dog beach located at Malibu Beach Wildlife Management area in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Dogs of all sizes are encouraged to play in the sand and water. The beach is located at the base of the Ocean Drive Bridge on the Longport side across from the fishing pier. Fold the flag in the traditional triangle fold. Place the folded flag on top of the fire, being careful to not injure yourself. Watch the flag to make sure it is fully incinerated. While the flag is in the process of being burned, observe the flag with respect and reverence. While the flag is being incinerated, recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
