Reggae From Around The World. Catch the Vibes!

The reggae-rock infused South Florida based band Artikal Sound System has released a new video for their newly released single “You’re an Asshole” out now on Controlled Substance Sound Labs. It is for anyone who has felt the sting of a break-up and aptly titled “You’re an Asshole.” Watch here:
Artikal Sound System first came together in 2012 under the direction of Chris Montague (guitar) and Fabian Acuña (bass) backing popular reggae artists. However it wasn’t until the additions of keys player Christopher Cope, drummer Adam Kampf, and the Jazz influenced vocalist Logan Rex that the band was fully realized.
Logan Rex reflects on the new song, “The day I started writing this song I had met up for coffee with this guy I had dated for nearly ten years. I was sort of reflecting on everything he and I had been through together and was getting pretty fired up about it.” Continuing Logan says, “The hook and main melody just started coming out while I was singing in the shower. I got over to Chris Montague’s house as soon as I could to finish it up and the boy’s parts seemed to write themselves after that. This one felt pretty effortless because it felt like I was just jotting down feelings in my diary.”
She adds, “As far as naming the song, I think most people who’ve met my ex would feel like it’s a pretty fitting title.”
With the new song Artikal Sound System seamlessly hones their emerging sound that can be heard throughout the forthcoming album. The bands unique sound is edgy and raw with emotion but presented with an authentic voice that is based on life events and fused with personal feelings. Reflecting back on the new single “You’re An Asshole,” Logan says “This song was a last minute tune we finished up just in time to record but it’s quickly turned into one of our favorites.” She adds, “We know the reggae thing is all good vibes, peace and love, but sometimes you’re just a little too pissed at your ex-boyfriend for all that.”

For the upcoming album and newly released songs, the band worked with the renowned reggae-rock producer Danny Kalb. They recorded at both Chris Montague’s home studio Oceanside Audio in Boynton Beach, FL, at the band’s good friend Dean Fishback’s studio Seven Hills in Lauderhill, FL. Logan Rex spent a few days up at White Star Studio outside Charlottesville, VA laying down the vocals.
The road warriors have graced the stage with fan celebrated artists like Common Kings, Eli Mac, Fortunate Youth, The Hip Abduction, The Green, Badfish, Ballyhoo, Bumpin Uglies, Josh Heinrichs and The Elovaters. And have been included on influential festival rosters including Reggae Rise Up, Arizona Roots, Summerfest, Dirty Heads Orlando Vacation, Dry Diggings, and Reggae in the Rockies. The band is currently on tour and will be performing with Fortunate Youth, Katastro, and Joe Sambo for select dates. Check out the complete tour here and selected dates listed below.
