WORKING PRINCIPLE OF TIG WELDING OPERATION TIG is an arc welding process as shown in Fig 2. Wherein coalescence is produced by heating the work piece with an electric arc struck between a tungsten electrode and the job. The electric discharge generates a plasma arc between the electrode tip and the work piece to be welded.
A welding machine is used to create the heat and apply the filler metal. The filler metal is supplied to form the joint, either from the electrode itself (or) by filler material. The temperature of the heat produced is of the order of 6000° to 7000°c. So, let's discuss the different types of welding processes and how they are used in Industries.
What is TIG Welding? TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is the technique of utilizing an electrical arc between a tungsten electrode and a metal workpiece, with the final objective of joining metal together. Filler wire is generally used to bridge the metal together and is fed into a molten weld pool manually by the operator thus, producing a weld.

In TIG welding, we need three basic things to start with. These are heat, shielding, and filling metal. The electricity that passes through the tungsten electrode creates heat, which forms an arc for welding. A compressed gas bottle will be helpful as you need shielding to protect it from the gas in the air.
3 types of TIG. Scratch start. Scratch Start is the most basic form of TIG welding and requires dragging the electrode across the surface of a workpiece to initiate the weld cycle. Lift Arc. Lift Arc requires touching the workpiece and lifting the torch to initiate the weld cycle. High Frequency. TIG welding, is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. The weld area and electrode is protected from oxidation or other atmospheric contamination by an inert shielding gas (argon or helium), and a filler metal is normally used, though some welds, known as autogenous welds, do not require it.
