The nature of adolescent-parent relationships has been a topic of enduring concern in developmental science. In this article, we review theory and current research on several central topics. First, we define adolescence as a developmental period and briefly discuss current theoretical and analytical approaches. Then, we consider adolescent-parent relationship quality, including the social media addiction and the adolescent-parent relationship. Participants of the study are 583 adolescents (365 females, and 218 males). In the study, the Social Media Dependency Scale and the Adolescent Parent Relationship Questionnaire (PARQ) were used. In order to test whether the parent -adolescent relationship predicts parent-adolescent relationship that may facilitate the development of the skills and characteristics that enable adolescents to thrive, such as connectedness between parents and their adolescents and involvement of parents in their adolescent's lives; and factors that impede or are linked to poor Parents and peers are the most determining factor in adolescent development. Empirical Evidence Concerning Relationship Development Features of independence, equality, and distress overarch many conceptualizations of parent-adolescent relationship quality (e.g., De Goede et al. 2009; Steinberg and Silk 2002), and are reflected in Furman and Buhrmester's (1985) parent-adolescent relations, a focus that derives from attempting to un derstand the nature of and transfor mations in relations between parents and adolescents.2 Research in this tradition examines which aspects of the parent-adolescent relationship remain stable and which ones are transformed across adolescence. Parenting is viewed as a gendered, cultural practice influenced by community and wider societal values and norms.
